About PY43

History

Yellow ochre, natural clay colored by iron oxide, is one of the oldest pigments known, found in cave paintings. Raw sienna is a related, more transparent natural earth.

In mixes

A gentle, muted yellow that is useful for flesh, landscape and toning down brighter colors. Tints are soft rather than bright, and it is very permanent.

Drying speed is typical for linseed oil; tubes ground in safflower or poppy oil, or with driers added, will differ. These are general notes on the pigment, not on any one brand.
