About PR102
History
Natural red earths, colored by iron oxide, have been used since prehistory. Many traditional 'light red' and natural burnt sienna colors use them.
In mixes
Warm, earthy and permanent, a little less uniform than the synthetic PR101. Good for flesh and landscape, and for warm greys with blue.
Drying speed is typical for linseed oil; tubes ground in safflower or poppy oil, or with driers added, will differ. These are general notes on the pigment, not on any one brand.
Purest PR102, by brand
The best single-pigment PR102 tube from each line, ranked: artists' grade first, then lightfastness, then how firmly the pigment listing is confirmed. Ties are listed alphabetically.
