Hue or substitute.
The name traditionally means vermilion (PR106); this tube uses other pigments. The name promises vermilion (PR106).
Genuine vermilion is mercury sulfide: very expensive, toxic, and it can darken in light. Hues are cheap and stable.
Compared with Vermilion (Holbein):
- Lightfastness: very good for this hue, excellent for the genuine.
- Safety: this hue has no mercury; the genuine does.
